How to Deposit on Polymarket

Funding Your Polymarket Account

Before you can trade on Polymarket, you need to deposit funds. Polymarket uses USDC (USD Coin), a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, on the Polygon blockchain. This guide covers every deposit method and helps you avoid common mistakes.

If you have not created your account yet, see our sign-up guide first.

Method 1: Debit Card Deposit (Easiest)

This is the fastest way to fund your account, especially if you are new to crypto.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your Polymarket account
  2. Click Deposit (found in your portfolio or wallet section)
  3. Select "Deposit with Card"
  4. Enter the amount you want to deposit (in USD)
  5. Enter your debit card details
  6. Confirm the transaction

The third-party payment provider converts your local currency to USDC and deposits it directly to your Polymarket wallet. Funds typically arrive within 1-5 minutes.

Card Deposit Tips

  • Debit cards work best. Credit card transactions may be blocked by your issuer as crypto-related purchases
  • Check your daily limits. Some cards have limits on crypto purchases, especially for first-time transactions
  • Small fees may apply. The card payment provider typically charges a small processing fee (1-3%)
  • If declined, contact your bank to authorize the transaction, or try a different card

Method 2: Crypto Deposit (USDC on Polygon)

If you already have USDC or can acquire it through a crypto exchange, this method avoids card processing fees.

Steps:

  1. Log in to Polymarket and go to Deposit
  2. Copy your Polymarket wallet address (displayed on the deposit page)
  3. Open your external wallet or exchange account
  4. Send USDC to your Polymarket address on the Polygon network
  5. Wait for confirmation — typically 1-2 minutes on Polygon

Critical Warning: Use the Polygon Network

Always send USDC on the Polygon (MATIC) network. Sending on Ethereum mainnet, Arbitrum, Optimism, or any other network will not arrive in your Polymarket wallet. Recovery of funds sent on the wrong network may be difficult or impossible.

When withdrawing USDC from an exchange, make sure to select Polygon as the network before confirming.

Method 3: Bridge From Other Networks

If you have USDC on Ethereum or another blockchain, you can bridge it to Polygon before depositing:

  1. Use a bridge service (Polygon Bridge, Hop Protocol, or others)
  2. Bridge your USDC from your source network to Polygon
  3. Once the USDC arrives on Polygon, send it to your Polymarket wallet address

Bridging typically takes 5-20 minutes depending on the bridge and source network.

How Much Should You Deposit?

Beginners: $20-$50. This gives you enough to explore 3-5 markets and learn the mechanics without significant risk.

Intermediate traders: $100-$500. Enough to build a diversified portfolio across multiple markets.

Active traders: $500+. Sufficient for meaningful position sizing across many markets.

Never deposit more than you can afford to lose. Prediction market trading carries real financial risk. For guidance on position sizing, see our money-making strategies guide.

Troubleshooting

Deposit not showing up: Confirm you sent USDC on the Polygon network. Check the transaction on a Polygon block explorer using your transaction hash. If the transaction is confirmed on-chain, contact Polymarket support.

Card payment declined: Try a different card, contact your bank to authorize crypto transactions, or switch to the crypto deposit method.

Minimum deposit: Polymarket has no strict minimum deposit, but very small amounts (under $5) may not be practical after accounting for card processing fees.

Processing time: Card deposits are usually instant but can take up to 30 minutes during high-demand periods. Crypto deposits on Polygon confirm in 1-2 minutes.

After Depositing

Once your funds arrive, you are ready to trade. Here is what to do next:
